Skill Level: All
Some stones just are not worth spending an hour or more wrapping them to make a
pendant. Students will taught how to quickly wrap almost any stone in 30 to 60 seconds
to make a wire wrapped pendant using Rock Wraps, a finding created and copyrighted
by Don Norris. They are an elegant and quick way to wrap a stone without hiding the
stone under all the wire, Students will be given permission to make and use the
copyrighted “Rock Wrap” for all your stones in the future. You will learn to make them
using 18- and 20-gauge Sterling Silver round wire. Even though this is not a soldering
class you will learn to solder the Rock Wraps after learning how to bend them, shape
them, and solder them in just two places. Of course, you will use hard Silver Solder. You,
also, will be taught how to make a hundred or more in one day. The Rock Wrap can
wrap any cabochon, crystal, small crystal cluster, rough stone, found objects, steam
punk objects, and especially tumbled stones in less than 60 seconds. They are also
perfect to wrap arrowheads and dichroic glass pieces. You will solder and use two to
make two pendants in this class. You may, also, make as many copper Rock Wraps as
time permits. You will be taught to tumble polish Sterling Silver and copper. We will
have hundreds of cabochons, dichroic glass, and tumbled stones to choose from. You
may bring in your own stones if you wish.
